Mutt Strutt - Montgomery County

Come out and join Storey Studios at the 16th annual Mutt Strutt & Dog Day Afternoon benefiting the Humane Society of Montgomery County.
We worked with the Humane Society on the perfect "rescue" face for their event this year.  We will be at the event and may even bring some of our four-legged children.
The registration starts at 9am and the walk will begin at 10am.  There will be vendors with dog goodies and plenty of rescue groups if you are ready to make someone a forever home.

Visit the website for the registration form and more information.

We hope to see you all out there!!

Luci, The Labrador Retriever Dog Art

Labrador Retriever
The Labrador Retriever is a wonderful family dog. They are sweet, affectionate, patient, and they constantly aim to please. They are very smart, good-natured dogs, and they love to play. They get along very well with children and other dogs. They need to feel as though they are part of the family.  Just ask our lab Luci who follows her Daddy all over the house.
Labradors are some of the best sniffers in the world and make great hunting companions. They love to have a job that keeps them busy.  If not, they are known to chew entire trees off to a nub!!
Since not everyone is a hunter, just play fetch.
Labs are known to love the water!  They are even one of the few breeds that have webbed feet.  Of course, Luci, our rescued lab is terrified of the water.  Go figure?!  She will edge up to the side of the pool if we are in it, but stays a healthy distance away if we are not.
The Lab is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, the breed was used to haul fisherman’s nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England from Labrador.
As always, we support adoptions.  There are so many pups that need homes.  These are a few Texas rescue groups if you are interested in adopting one of these wonderful dogs.
This portrait is a custom of my lab, Luci.

Saluki

Saluki
The Saluki may be one of the oldest breeds of domesticated dogs.  They appear on ancient ceramics from 3500 BCE.  This breed is obviously a sight hound.  Although not as fast as the greyhound, they are known for their great endurance and strength.  They are known to be “singers” and very intelligent animals. Did you know that Saluki’s have extra hair between the toes for protection and are very heat and cold resistant?  If you are interested in a saluki, Storey Studios is a supporter of “Don’t Shop, Adopt”.  Please visit these and other fine groups for Saluki adoptions. Saluki Tree of Life Alliance

Gone Too Long!

Ok people!  WAYYY to long since our last blog entry.  Sorry for being away.

We participated in the 1st annual Sugar Land Area Artists art show this past Saturday.  The day was nice, a little hot, for local Sugar Land artists to show their work.  The festivities were right in front of Loggia, Cigar Cigar, Mi Luna and Olives.  The proceeds from the sale went to benefit the Sugar Land YMCA.

Read more in the Sugar Land Sun and see some pictures of the festival.

You can visit the Sugar Land Area Artist website for more information about their group.

We have also updated our website.  We have a whole new look so please refresh your browser if you have visited us before.

I want to introduce everyone to our wonderful canine companions that give us so much love and inspiration.
Between Beth and me we have 8 rescue dogs.  Yes, you read that right, 8!  What can we say???  We cannot say no.

This is Luci!!  She is a darling baby that my spouse
found running around in the road last year.   She is a typical lab that just loves to be with her people, especially when they are piled in the bed!!

Here is Mr. Johnson.  He was rescued from the Greyhound Rescue at the track down on the coast.  (Why have we not banned dog racing yet?????)
He is a big lazy lover boy with the worst breath you have ever smelled in your life!  He is Grandma's favorite even though she will not admit it.

I will be posting the rest of the family soon.  Remember, don't shop, adopt!!!
Visit our friends....

There are a ton more out there....

Don't forget,,,,we donate 15% of all custom dog portraits and pet carrier purchases to your choice of local rescue or shelter organizations.  It is the best way for us to not bring more home!!!

Chat with you all soon.

Ciao

Swampfest - Austin, TX

This was my first trip to Austin and I have to admit it is a groovy town!  We were in Austin to participate in the Swampfest!  The perfect place for River Rats (that is what they call people that come from the Delta like we do!)

The event was located in downtown Austin in front of the Texas History Museum.  There was a great assortment of food from the bayou.  We ate some thin, crispy catfish fillets that my Mammaw would have had a hard time beating.
There was real boudin, gumbo and of course funnel cakes.  (Funnel cakes have nothing to do with Louisiana, but they are SOOOO good!)

Our next event will be in Fredericksburg, TX.  Please look for us in Austin again at the Old Pecan Street Festival.
Should be a blast.

Ciao for now!

Houston Humane Society Fun Run

If you missed it, shame on you!! :-)
The weather was absolutely fabulous, in the shade,,,a little hot in the sun.
There were many wonderful vendors available to visit with.  We met several that you will soon be seeing on our website.

Remember, "Don't shop, adopt!!"  Lone Star Pet Lodges has a great baby from Ike that is just the sweetest meathead you have ever seen!!  (big yellow lab mix)  Of course the Houston Humane Society always has loads of "children" ready for adoption.

Scoop Le Poop is ready to keep that yard clean.

And of course, Storey Studios was there with our fun dog art and haute dog accessories.  As always, 15% of all of our custom dog portraits and custom painted carriers, are donated to the shelter/rescue group of your choice!'
